Hi guys,
My rough route will be:
Dubrovnik, Croatia -> Sarajevo, Bosnia -> Belgrade, Serbia -> (Possibly Sofia, Bulgaria -> Bucharest, Romania if they are worth the extra travelling) -> Budapest, Hungary -> Bratislava, Slovakia -> Prague, Czech Republic -> Warsaw, Poland -> Berlin, Germany.
My question is with these almost entirely being Balkan states and cheaper European countries, would an Interrail pass be worth it? If funds allow we will incorporate smaller cities and even extend our trip past Germany into other Western European countries. But on this itinerary alone - would you recommend buying tickets individually or interrail? Dubrovnik to Sarajevo has to be via bus aswell.
Any help will be greatly appreciated! This is my first post, but I intend to advise others myself after I've completed the trip. Thanks, Ben

Hi Ben,
Dubrovnik - Sarajevo - Beograd would be done by bus; so from Beograd to Berlin (a potential detour to Romania/Bulgaria excluded) you would need 5 travel days.
The 5in10 is 184€; single tickets are 15€ for Beograd - Budapest; about 15-20€ for Budapest - Bratislava; about 25€ Bratislava - Praha; Praha - Warszawa from 25€ (online at [ux]https://rail.shop/cd[/ux] for the direct night train) and Warszawa - Berlin from 29€ (online at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] ticket has to be shipped to you by post or at https://rail.shop/pkpic[/ux])
If you want to extend your trip beyond Berlin, a 5in10 pass starting around Praha would make sense if you want to travel spontaneously; if you want to include Sofia and/or Bucharest you can stick with single tickets, or, if you want to include an extra stop in that area (Plovdiv or Brasov for example, also look at https://rail.cc/blog/bucharest-sofia-istanbul-train/ and https://rail.cc/blog/to-istanbul-by-train-part-2/) you might think about buying a Balkan Flexi Pass in Beograd that covers travel in Serbia, Romania and all countries south from there, 53€ for 5 travel days

Wow thanks so much for that reply, cheers Flow! That has helped me massively.
Would I need to pay for the Prague - Warsaw and Warsaw - Berlin legs online to get these prices? We'll probably be doing a fair bit of spontaneous travelling when it comes to dates.
And I'm guessing we'd have to purchase an interrail pass before we set off if we decided to use one?

You're welcome. :)
Prague - Warsaw for 24€ is a special fare First Minute Poland and has to be purchased online or via phone at least 3 days prior to departure. Regular fare is 61,20€.
Warsaw - Prague for 29€ is a special fare as well (Europa Spezial Polen (DB) or SparDay (PKP)); ESP from DB has to be purchased in anvance since it hs to be shipped by post in the direction Poland > Germany (in the other direction online tickets would be possible); SparDay from PKP can be bought at international ticket counters in Poland as well however at least 3 days prior to departure as far as I know. Regular fare is 64,60€ All special fares are subject to availability.
You can also buy an InterRail ticket at a station while you are travelling; I'd just like to point out that we rely on tickets being bought through our partner link [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] in order to keep the site running with all the free information.
