Is this a viable route?

Will there be any additional charges on Interrail?

Hi!

Yes, why not. ;)

Rome - Milan: 10€ for reservation for Frecciarossa high speed train
Milan - Munich: 7€ for EC train via Innsbruck, supplement to be paid on board (regional train to Verona, from there EC to Munich every two hours)
Munich - Vienna: free with InterRail
Vienna - Budapest: free with InterRail
Budapest - Krakow: 4€ seat reservation for EC Budapest - Katowice, change there to Krakow, for Katowice - Krakow reservation is required on some trains, if bought locally it is free of charge.

The above applies for day trains ( :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation ) for night train reservation fares look here: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train

Thank you for supporting the free information on railcc with the purchase of your tickets at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] :)
