Hi ngezza,

As far as i know the only direct connection from Berlin to Amsterdam is by ICE (InterCity Express). Officially, you do need to pay a supplement (about €3,50 i think) which also counts as a seat reservation but i got away without one several times. Then again, it's a long ride, and having to swap seats in the middle of your journey can be annoying. If you don't reserve a seat, make sure you sit down in a non-reserved seat (you can see whether a seat is reserved above the window near the chair).

Hope that helps,

Cheers,

AO

With the new ticket you don't have to pay any supplements on ICE, but if you make a reservation it's €3,50.
