Hi everyone!

Well, I've already booked some trains that have compulsory reservation. However, some routes say that it's not compulsory, but it is recommended. For instance: Geneve to Munich (IC and EN); Munich to Vienna (RJ) and Vienna to Prague (EC).
What do you say?

It's my first Interrail and you already helped me in other subjects :)

Kind regards,

Hi Louis!
When the reservation is not compulsory, I don't buy it :) I traveled the train from Vienna to Prague a couple of times - it wasn't empty but there were always some free seats available (even for a small group of 4 people). I also used the Railjet train you mentioned above - I had no problems with finding a seat without reservation. Que tenhas uma boa viagem! :D

You dont need reservations for Munich to Vienna and Vienna to Prague.
What is the connection Geneve to Munich? Maybe you mean EC instead of EN? No reservation needed either.
I hope you purchased you ticket via our partner to support all our free information, thank you. :)

You get the train in Geneve at 07h45 pm, IC. Then, arrive to Zurich at 10h31 pm and change train to EN, that's what it says. Then, arrives to Salzburg at 04h16 pm and finally to Munich at 06h10 pm.

Well, this is an overnight connection which is a rather awkward way to go in my opinion. The trains from Zürich to Salzburg and Salzburg to München are indeed EN but both would require a seat reservation (9€ for the first train, 5€ for the second train).

Why do you say it's awkward? We have to be in Munich in the morning of 1st July and this was the best route we found.
Where do I make those reservations?

Well, because personally I would not want to spend 9€+5€ for reservations for a connection where I have to sit overnight and change trains in the middle of the night. I would take an earlier train from Genf to Zürich then take the last day train to München and stay there overnight. This would be maybe 10€ or 15€ more expensive but I could sleep in a proper bed.

I agree with you and probably we'll change because we weren't liking this route, but we have to spend money anyway 8.50€ (4+4.50) in extra fees plus the overnight in Munchen.

OK. Why would you have to spend 4+4,50€? Do you want to make reservations for day trains? Thats totally not necessary.

So, let me see if I understand: we only spent those 8.50€ if we make the reservations, right?
