Hi, I'm really struggling to find the quickest route between Belgrade - Budva (Montenegro) - Ohrid (Macedonia) and Thessaloniki. Was hoping someone might be able to give me some suggestions, how long it may take between destinations or really any help at all! I know Bar is the closest station to Budva and Skopje is pretty close to Ohrid but I haven't been able to find any definitive bus or train timetables online.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Hi!

From Belgrade, take the fantastic scenic railway down to Montenegro. It is best to get off at the capital, Podgorica, from where you have frequent buses to Budva (I would also recommend to have a look to nearby Kotor).
From Budva, go to Ulcinj (also worth a visit), from where there should run an overnight bus to Ohrid.
From Ohrid you can take a taxi (dont know if buses are running) across the border to Florina, then train to Thessaloniki.

Hej Jack,

you're welcome. As soon as you will arrive in Podgorica, you will see that it wont be problem to get around with the buses which are standard means of transport in that area. It is also likely that you will be approaches by taxi drivers which might be an option as well, although there are frequent buses especially between Podgorica and Kotor/Budva. When we were in Montenegro last year we made a deal with a taxi driver who took us to Zabljak in the Durmitor National Park for just 50 or 60€ which was really ok for the 2 1/2h distance.
Bus tickets can be bought at ticket offices at larger bus terminals (Podgorica, Kotor,...) or directly at the driver or conductor if you enter at smaller villages.
It'd be great to hear from your experiences after your trip! :)
And if you go with InterRail, please support us by purchasing your ticket at our partner at [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux] - thank you! :)
