Hi.
Supermarkets are cheap. Book hostels which offer a kitchen, then you can cook by yourself and save a lot of money - beside you meet a lot of other travellers. :)
Fast food is in my eyes not healthy and beside that: expensive. If you pay EUR 8 for a menu at McDonalds, you are hungry again after one hour - and 4 people X EUR 8 = EUR 32 = for such a lot of money you get much better food in every supermarket. :)
Test it: go to the supermarket and buy food for one day for all you four people: noddles, tomatoes, cheese, bread, water, ... I suppose it is less than EUR 5 per day per person.
Multiply it with your travel days.
Peter :)

so youre likely an insular Brit.
Its pretty simple: check what it would cost at tesco/Sainsbury in GBP-then assume it will cost the same in €.
On longer average-EUR has more expensive and cheaper countries-this works out fine. You'll after a while will also discover why so many people think its rip-off |Britain due to its high prices.
Why in fact would you think it would cost more out of an island like yours?
As always there is an exception: if you cannot sustain on non-Brit food-you will have to look very hard and pay more-find that odd Marks and Sparks in some capitals. If you only know Cadbury chocs-bad luck- try the local marks.
Just like in the UK ALDI and LIDL are Europe-wide chains generally offering the lowest cost. But they are hardly ever near stations-ecept in Germany.
