My partner and I have booked flights ready for our first InterRail adventure. We've found this site massively helpful but still need some questions answered which we're a bit unsure of/nervous about.

We will be purchasing tickets through this site as we said the resources have been massively helpful planning our trip!

We fly out on Monday 2nd June to Amsterdam and we return to Cardiff on Wednesday 11th June (10/11 days)

Our route is as follows:
Amsterdam - Prague - Krakow - Vienna(quick stop en route to Croatia) - Zagreb - Venice - Rome

What we're unsure of is the reliability of trains in these countries, i.e cancellations/delays/missing trains and mainly if it's all doable.

We HAVE crammed in a lot in the 10 days and we know in certain places we're not going to see a great deal but we just want the initial experience/feel for certain countries as we plan to go back to certain countries on a one country pass and explore further. We're happy to cram this in and again just want advice on the travelling aspect.

Any advice/tips would be much appreciated on the logistics of all of this.

Day 1
Arrive in Amsterdam have a look around (not a great deal we wanted to see and do) and catch a night train.
Depart 19:01 - pay for a bed/seat overnight

Day 2
Arrive in Prague 09:27 spend the full day there before departing at 22:36 for Krakow.

Day 3
Arrive in Krakow at 06:30. The day we will be visiting Auschwitz then we will be sleeping in a Hostel and maybe explore some more.

Day 4
Depart Krakow 06:22 to head to Vienna

..cont - Arrive in Vienna at 14:24 and catch the 16:03 train to Zagreb

Arrive in Zagreb at 22:43 and check into a hostel to get some rest in a proper bed!

Day 5
Wake up in Zagreb, we plan to hire a car and drive to the lakes (we think this will be a bit of luxury rather than a train or bus to Plitvice Lakes as we would have to wait around and be back in a certain time.

On returning the car we would sleep another night in a hostel to get some rest.

Day 6
Depart Zagreb 06:50 and arrive in Venice 14:25
We will spend the Day in Venice and be sleeping there.

Day 7
Wake up in Venice and depart for Rome at 17:25 and arrive at 21:10. We are planning on spending the night here and checking into a hostel.

Day 8
Train to Pompeii via Naples day trip and then back to Rome

Day 9
Spend all day in Rome

Day 10
Half day and then fly home!

Hi!

Your route will be doable, although you are right in saying that it is quite packed. ;)
You will need to book separate tickets for one trip as you would need six travel days but probably would like to buy a 5in10 ticket.
This could be the night train from Amsterdam to Prague or one of your trips in Italy.
To check for prices of the Amsterdam - Prague night train have a look at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/nsinternational[/ux] and also compare to the reservation fees if you would do this trip with one of your InterRail travel days: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/amsterdam-prague-cnl457/15
For your trips in Italy check fares at [ux]https://rail.shop/omio[/ux] or directly on Trenitalia website.

You will need a reservation for the night train to Krakow: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/prague-to-krakow
Consider that it takes about 2h by train from Krakow to Oswiecim (for Auschwitz) each way.

You will need a reservation for the train from Katowice to Vienna.

You will also need reservations for the high speed trains in Italy (10€); slower and less frequent Intercity services cost 3€ reservation (recommended not compulsory).
