NO- DO book a hoStel-there is a big one at just 5-6 mins walk away. The station is CLOSED after last train-and open before first. The area around is NOT safe at all-you'll see that easily enough. In fact at summertime they only let you IN the station=gare when your train has been announced.
IF you really are pennyless, go on to Ventimiglia and stray in the stazione overnight there. or walk to the beach.

Last summer one of the Interrailers here on railcc got his Interrail pass stolen while sleeping at Ventimiglia railway station. :|
I think the hostel is the better solution - and the more relaxing one. :)
