I'm planning a trip from Budapest in Hungary to Barcelon, Spain, in july 2014.
Not alone. With my wife and my 11 years old doughter.
Can you think of any other way but Interrail?
Is the shortest way via Italia?
Thanks

Hi Paul and Family,
how long do you want to travel from Budapest to Barcelona? How do you want to get back to Romania?
If you are going with IR, the 5in10 would probably the way to go, this costs 281€ for and adult, 140€ for a child. This is not that cheap, so if you choose this option you should really make use of all the 5 travel days. The advantage of the IR would be that you could stay quite flexible and change your route at short notice.
On the other hand, you could look for regular pre booked tickets which could be cheaper but have limited options for refund/exchange in case you change your route.
The fastest option would be via Paris:
Budapest Keleti 2110 - 0610 München Hbf
München Hbf 0627 - 1235 Paris Est
Paris Lyon 1407 - 2040 Barcelona Sants
If you want to travel the direct way, without extra stops in between this would be the best route however I would recommend to have an overnight stay in München instead so that you dont have to worry about the connection early in the morning.
You would have to buy three separate tickets for this route:
Budapest - München: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] or [u]https://rail.shop/mav[/ux]
München - Paris: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] or rail.shop/sncf
Paris - Barcelona: [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf[/ux] or [ux]https://rail.shop/acprail/renfe[/ux]
