Hey,

We are just putting the final touches of our route together for July. From Munich we wish to visit Bled, Pula and Venice but are unsure on the route. I understand that Munich to Venice has a very nice scenic route. Ideally we would prefer to avoid the ferry between Pula and Venice but from the looks of things the rail links are not great from Pula.

Could anyone suggest the best route going from Munich and visiting Bled, Venice, Pula and then we plan to head west towards Milan please? I have attached an image of the places we would like to visit.

Hi!

Which Munich - Venice scenic route do you want to travel?

I'd do this like this:

First from Munich to Bled during the day (Lesce Bled station, where international trains stop is about 4km away from the village, you could think about changing trains at Jesenice and getting of at Bled Jezero station instead from where you can walk along the lake to the village).

After your stay in Bled, take a train to Ljubljana and take the following connection from there to Pula:

To get to Venezia:

To support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Thanks! So basically going via Ljubljana is the only link from Pula to Munich and Venice? that's fair enough and I'll probably end up doing that then!

The route I heard about was from Munich to Venice via Innsbruck and Verona apparently going through the Brenner Pass:

You can have a look at the map here: http://www.bueker.net/trainspotting/map.php?file=maps/croatia---slovenia---bosnia-hercegovina/croatia---slovenia---bosnia-hercegovina.gif

Bled is just to the southeast of Jesenice in between the green and cyan line.

As you can see there is a direct link to Pula from Divaca, however there are just two trains each direction. On the trip to Pula you can take a connection along this route.
On the way back however you will have to go via Rijeka by using a bus (included in IR) from Lupoglav to Rijeka, then continue to Ljubljana - Jesenice - Nova Gorica/Gorizia - Venezia. Sadly, the train from Rijeka to Ljubljana just misses a more direct connection via Divaca - Sezana in Pivka by eight minutes which forces you to go via Ljubljana.
Also, due to massive damages due to freezing rain the railway lines around Postojna - Pivka - Divaca currently undergo extensive reconstruction works with bus replacements, this means that the 1312 from Ljubljana and the 1155 from Rijeka will be replaced by bus - this probably will last until the summer.

Munich to Venice via the Brenner route is quite nice, but also the route via the Tauern (Munich - Salzburg - Villach - Jesenice - Ljubljana) is really scenic as well. :)
