Hi,

I am starting to plan my first interrail trip and one of the things I am a bit worried about is booking reservations whilst on the road. For instance, I plan on getting the night train from Fonyod on Lake Balaton to Split in Croatia, but (as has been previously mentioned in other threads) there is no way to order these online (Budapest - Split night train).

I guess what I am worried about is booking my reservation that I will need for 3 trains (Budapest - Keszthely, Fonyod - Split & Split to Zagreb), especially from some of the scare stories I have heard about staff''s lack of English in Budapest Train Stations. Are there machines where I can order these reservations? Is it possible to order them in other countries, such as Germany? (I can speak German a bit). Anyway I'm sure I'm worrying over nothing, but can someone put my mind at ease and shed a little light on the matter?

Many thanks,

Cal

Hi Cal!

- There are dedicated international counters at the Budapest stations, where it is no problem to communicate in English. Especially the one at Keleti can be quite full in summer, calculate with at least half an hour in line.
- You can also get reservations abroad, for instance in Germany. However I would recommend to take a piece of paper with your where you write down all trains for which you want reservations. Espeically the summer only night train can be tricky to book for unexperienced staff as I have experienced myself last year for the Budapest - Bar night train.
- I'd recommend to book the Fonyod - Split train as early as possible as it has only limited space available.
- What train do you want to take from Budapest to Keszthely that would require a reservation?
