I've been surprised to see that there's apparently no good rail connection. The only one that seems somewhat reasonable, found at https://rail.cc/en/train/vilnius-to-warsaw, says this connection is currently suspended. Does anyone know why that is and whether it might soon be unsuspended? (We are hoping to travel the route approximately April 24 or 25.)
What would you recommend as an alternative? Bus?
Is renting a car one-way viable (for two people)?

Its daft simple; WORKS-long overdue, on a single track line. And noone will know how long that will take-after works finished it will also eat time for the normal safety checks. There is a POlish rail=-replacement bus on the sector affected, but this will take more time-and more changes. Tipical for PL those things are not announced monthes before to please some preplanners, but mostly a day or 2 after they realise it is open again. Some German-language railfora are often the best form of info for that- Peter+FLow follow them.
Anyway-those wanting to travel overthere have already since many years turned en-masse to the long distance buses. Which should hardly come as a surprise, except to diehard rail-only believers. And as Lithuanians are not that much interested in going to PL-rather more to West-Eur, the lowcost airlines offer loads of very cheap flites.
Bus;' google for ecolines or eurolines or SIMPLE or the polish online booker e-podroznik. Can be as low as 3 or 5 eur all the way VNS-WAW
