I´ve noticed that on our departure from Realp to Andermatt the timetable says only stops on request - do you have any information on how to make this request? Is it the old fashion way with semaphor? And where is this then located? Is there a resource on the Internet somewhere where we can find specifik station-information?

Hej,

there are information panels at each station with departure boards, live information screens and buttons to call for a train to stop on request.
I can have a look when I'm back home if I have a photo of these. What kind of station info are you looking for? MGB only?

I guess the big stations is no problem, but if there is a small station that perhaps is unmaned I could feel safer if we know what to do and to expect. Like that we have to push a button to get the train to stop :D

this would be abundant obvious clear when you are in the ''station''which in those cases is mostly no more as a railside slightly raised platform.

You request a stop by pressing a button. On stations there will usually be a small box with two buttons, one for each direction. You press this, and a signal lights up informing the train driver he has to stop.
When you are on a train and a request stop is announced you press a button to request it, in a similar way as you would on a bus. This button is often located near the doors.

Thank you so much for the information! Does the train staff announce them as request stops? And is this done in german only?

At least on RhB they announce everything in German, English and the local dialect. :)

Just to add to the info on request stops here.
Some request stops are in fact passing loops on single track lines.

If you're trying to get off the train, make sure you try the doors on each side, as they will unlock the doors only on one side. (How did I find that out? By trying to force the doors open on the wrong side, not realising the correct platform was the other side!)

If you're trying to get on the train, I've been to a couple of stations where the arrangement is:
1. main platform with request button and timetables etc
2. track
3. small platform
4. other track.
The signs tell you to wait on the main platform, regardless of the direction you're travelling. It doesn't say which platform your train will use. Therefore it can be a bit of a concern if two trains are timetabled to cross there, and the train in the wrong direction arrives first in the nearest track, thus blocking you from the other platform. Don't panic, they are aware of that situation, and the guard on the train in the right direction will wait for the other train to clear, so that passengers can cross the first track to reach the small platform and the train that they want.

Hope that makes sense - a diagram might work better.
