Hi!
I'm going on interrail this summer with my boyfriend. We are thinking of buying the Interrail global plass 22 days continuous and starting our trip with flying from oslo(where we live) to copenhagen. We also plan to travel by plane home from where we end up. So this is the route we have been thinking of:
Copenhagen-Hamburg-Bremen-Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerpen-Brussel-Paris-Dijon-Bern-Milano-Venezia-Lake Bled-Ljublana-Pula\Drubnovik-Zagreb

I also really want to see Rome, but i don't know if we will get time with 22 days to travel?
Hope you can help me out :)

Hi!

Your route is ambitious but certainly doable. Regarding train travel there is not much you have to take care about:

- On the Amsterdam - Rotterdam - Antwerpen - Bruxelles - Paris route avoid the highly expensive Thalys high speed train and travel with regular intercity services instead; especially from Amsterdam until Bruxelles these are not much slower but can be used without a reservation and also run more frequently.
:arr: https://rail.cc/blog/amsterdam-brussels-train/
From Bruxelles to Paris I would go to Lille first and take a TGV train (6€) from there to Paris, this is the best combination of money spent/travel time. Get your reservation at Bruxelles already and try to get a TGV with a 6€ reservation (these are limited, if sold out the fare is 18€).

- Paris to Dijon can be done with the two hourly intercity trains leaving from Bercy station; so you can save on the TGV reservation

- Dijon to Bern travel either via Besancon - Le Locle - La Chaux des Fonds or Besancon - Belfort - Basel and avoid the TGV/Lyria services

- Bern to Milano: There are direct EC trains that cost 11€ reservation; instead you can travel for free if you go to Brig and change there to a local train to Domodossola, then continue to Milano; as there are not many connections each day, search for a convenient one with a schedule planner: :arr: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route

- Milano to Venezia can be done with fast Frecciabianca service (10€ reservation) or slower with free regional trains which usually include a change of trains at least in Verona.

- There are no rail services across the Italian <> Slovenian border, have a look here for an alternative: :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/

Rome could fit in as well, it is just three hours away from Milan by Frecciarossa (10€) high speed train...

From where do you want to fly back home?
Dubrovnik and Pula both could be too ambitious to get to and back again at the end of the trip but you will see that anyway when you are travelling.

Hi, and thank you for a great answer! :D We're wondering if you know which of the train routes from Bern to Milano is the most scenic? :) We want to see some nature while sitting on the train, so if you know any nice train routes which are in our route, shout out! :!: We would love to see Rome, so the high speed train sounds like a good choice :)
We are thinking of flying home from either Dubrovnik or Pula. We're not really sure yet, and our route can very possibly change. If you know any interesting places that aren't that touristy on our way, we would love to know about it!
Again, thanks!

Hi again!

Now it's less than three weeks until our trip and our route has changed a lot since my last post. We are now planning on going from Copenhagen to Groningen. And we were wondering if it is possible taking a night train? If so, do we have to make reservation for only seats, or do we have to buy extra tickets besides our interaipasses?

You can take the Copenhagen - Amsterdam night train, timings (check timings for your travel day with a schedule planner), reservation fares and reservation how-to: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/copenhagen-amsterdam-cnl40473/13

To support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Yes, but does that night train go via Groningen? It doesn't look like it on that link. If not, is it even possible to go from Copenhagen to Groningen with a night train?

I also have some other questions. We are going from Bern to Interlaken and later on to la spezia. I was wondering if it was possible doing this as a day-trip? We are also planning on taking either bus or ferry from Split to Dubrovnik. Is there any discounts with our interrailticket?
