Hey

My partner and I are interrailing for the first time this June/July and have already decided the route, Prague to Krakow (night train), to Bratislava (night train), to Budapest. This is where we are a little stuck. Do we go to Vienna then on to Munich, I'm finding travel home to Manchester quite awkward. What we were thinking of is buying a ticket as we'd used up our interrail pass. So a train ticket from Munich to London and then another to Manchester. Does any one have recommendations or advice on two other cities to visit instead?

Thanks

Hi!

What kind of IR ticket do you intend to buy and what is your overall route? I currently count only three trips (Prague to Budapest), or do you also have planned to then go to Vienna and Munich, thus using 5 travel days of a 5in10 IR pass?

First, I would change the order of the cities slightly; going Krakow - Budapest overnight, then Budapest - Bratislava during the day and from there to Vienna.

An interesting option might be to include a trip across the Swiss Alps :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
You could take the Vienna - Milan night train, go from there to Tirano and travel the Bernina and Albula route. Stay overnight somewhere along the route and then continue to Munich if you want to visit the city or elsewhere.

To get back home you could think about getting a London Spezial Ticket from Deutsche Bahn at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]
This is a special ticket for the Bruxelles - London Eurostar service including transfer from any German station. Note that you will have to travel via Cologne - Bruxelles using an ICE service as the ticket is not valid on Thalys services nor on the Paris - London Eurostar service.
Depending on what would be your last stop before heading back home it would be possible to get back home to Manchester within a single day.

Another alternative would be to head for somewhere in the Benelux area, then take the Hook of Holland - Harwich ferry back home :arr: https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/
