I'm planning on spending a day touring Pompeii and Herculaneum and decided to stay over in Sorrento rather than Naples, but is it possible to get a train to Sorrento? Apparently there is a train station there, but Bahn, and several other train timetable sites, don't have Sorrento on them. Anyone know if you can get trains to there?

yes, there is-in fact more as 1, local stazione there, but the trains are NOT from the state monopolist, but a local ''Circumvesuviana'' on narrow gauge-und thus you must pay separate. Treni should run about ev 20/30/40 mins, also stop much closer to the Pompei ruins as the FS, but the system has got into disarray due to the corrupzione and cuts in spending by the governamento. Tix are the local regione-wide Tarriffe, thus not online, not advance, and date-stamp before using. Buy at local shops/tabacchhi. Also include the citybus if needed on arrival-it goes by zones. For Norte-Europeaner they look very cheap, so do not start to hyperventilate about this added expense. BTW-there are also special tickets for 2-3 days in the whole regione incl most musei and attrazzione. Ask at the Napoli tourist info.
And why so narrowminded to use only on rails? there are many local ''pullmann''=autocar too.
PS; IF you want to get cheaper accomm and use that IR-stay in Salerno-admittedly this town is much less scenic as Sorrento. There are also buses along the cape Sorr-Sal.
