Information for Interrail, Eurail and travellers with normal train tickets.

UPDATE: the train is NOT available anymore!

From Paris to Barcelona by train. If you want to avoid the direct and expensive night train Elipsos, use an inexpensive French night train. If you like amazing scenig rail rides, use the Little Yellow Train to cross the Pyrenees.
:arr: Read the railcc blog report with photos and all the options: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

 A cheap way crossing the Pyrenees:

Paris - Perpignan (stay one night at the sea) - Latour-de-Carol (you use a cool small adventure train trough tunnels, high bridges = Petit Train Jaune) - Puigcerda (free Regional train) - Barcelona
On this route you cross the Pyrenees and it is a fantastic nature!!

For information about Le Petit Train Jaune (=the small yellow train) have a look on these websites. by the way, this train is in summer without a roof !! :)
And it is an official SNCF train, so you have an adventure tour without supplements !!

Direct connection trough the Pyrenees - Barcelona to Latour de Carol and then continue by the Petit Train Jaune to Perpignan or directly to Paris: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

Hi,

I have found really interesting your advise using this route: Paris - Perpignan - Latour-de-Carol - Puigcerda - Barcelona! :P

My only problem is that I find really difficult to buy the tickets for the nigh train (Paris - Perpignan) on-line. :| I only want to buy a cabin for 2 passengers yet I seem to have to buy the whole ticket. There is no InterRail option, is there?

Thank you for your help!

Hi.

In deed, you can not buy a reservation for Railpass travelers online.
You will have to buy it at a station - this station can bes as well outside of France - for example Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, ...

Some travelers bought a reservation this way - as it is sometimes really important to have a reservation - and you can't get it the official way:

Hey,

Does anyone know why the night sleeper train has it's tickets blocked for sale during many days in June and July? Will the train be running, do I just have to wait until the tickets are unblocked, or will I need to get there another way?

Hi.
At the beginning of June there is the official small change of the European train schedules. Some smaller updates will be done. But it won't hit a lot of trains - as well not this night train.
But the booking systems often doesn't allow to booking trains after this date. You will have to wait until mid of May - then the booking systems should be fine and ready to book - it always depends on the railway national companies how fast they are.

I recommend you either to use the French Corail night train (think about as well of crossing the Pyrenees). The direct Elipsos train is really expensive!!

Peter,

Thanks so much for the reply.

I will look for the corail service, not come across it before. Is there a website for it? Presumably I can travel with my young daughter ok?

Hi!
I tried to make a reservation for Paris - Port Bou in your online shop, bu there is no 'sleeping seat' option, just the couchette. Is it possible that all the seats are already full?

Humm...difficult to say as you didnt mention when you want to go.

If it doesnt work, you can also try to get the reservation via the SNCF website :arr: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-train-reservation/tgv-sncf/42

I'm travelling on 13th September. And the link you gave only has a link to the same online shop. I can't find an option at their page for reservation with an IR ticket.

Hi.
Of course there is a link on this explanation of booking TGVs on the link Flow gave you.
But he talked about the SNCF website, the website of the French railway company, simply use Google... :)
voyages-sncf.com
Or try this link: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/france/fr

Humm...I dont think it is a good idea to go to another country without visa. Anyway, I would cross the border with regional trains either via Cerbere - Portbou or Latour de Carol - Puigcerda. Never experienced border controls on that routes but of course there is the possibility that they make random controls.
