Hi there,
I'm planning on taking my first interrail trip in October of this year, and I'll be travelling as a solo female and staying in Hostels along the way as I hear this is the best way to meet fellow travellers! My current planned route is as follows:
London - Bruges - Amsterdam (this will be with a friend who will then travel back to London and I will continue)
Amsterdam - Zurich - Milan - Venice - Vienna - Zagreb
I was wondering if anyone could give me any advice on the best routes to take in order to make best use of Global Inter Rail Pass? however am also trying to avoid too many train changes along the way as this is my first time travelling. I'm trying to do this as cheaply as possible, would like to take the Bernina through to Tirano though...,.
So if anyone could offer any advice on what routes to take and whether or not I need to get reservations I would much appreciate it as I'm getting a bit overwhelmed trying to get my head around it all!

1.as cheap as poss: then use other means, can do a fair bit cheaper as IR. But then most UKers have hardly any notion of what reasonable railfares are.
2.be precise: that you are female hardly matters, but it does if you want overnighttrains or not, and also how you intend to go back UK-fly? Ryan? Bus? Also age: likely <26?
3.regardless of above: do NOT use IR for as far as AMS. Booking long before on €** is cheaper as with IR, BUS (eurolines, megabus) is even more cheap, there are cheap youth fares BE-NL.
4.the proposed route is OK-all can be done without changes, exc. BR-Ams. (1 change at least needed, various options for nicer ways with more). Most also need a few €€ extra for the required REServation additional to IR-do not let others do work you can daft easily do yourself by reading the various handmade travelroutes in this forum .
5. extra tip: for Oct profit from lower off-season rates, but then you must buy before 30/9-and after 1/8. Start date MUST be fixed and cannot be changed after!

Hi.
UK-Netherlands for example as well by rail&sail: [ux]https://rail.cc/blog/from-london-to-amsterdam-with-the-dutchflyer/
Or like nltrainer wrote by Eurostar train: [ux]https://rail.shop/beurope[/ux]
Crossing the Alps: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
Train schedules for Interrailers: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
And yes. It all depends on you - you can save a lot of money on accommodation and food. Stay in hostels with kitchen.

Hi!
How long are you going to travel? I think the 10in22 could be the best option for your trip - or do you want to go a full month? I dont think there are cheaper options than the IR pass btw...
You will be able to travel most routes without paying extra reservation fees; from Amsterdam to Zürich and Venezia to Wien you could go with a night train.
There are direct trains available during basically all these cities, only from Bruges to Amsterdam you will have to change twice, at Antwerpen and Den Haag - but dont worry, not a big deal at all: https://rail.cc/blog/amsterdam-brussels-train/
The Bernina route can be done without any extra costs as described in the blog post - you will just have to change trains a few times but again this is no problem as stations are small and most changes are just cross-platform. Easy to do and definitely worth it. :)
You could even add an overnight stay on top the Bernina Pass, great experience!

Thanks for the help / advice and links!! It's much appreciated and am enjoying trying to plan my trip a bit more now with less confusion! :)
Mostly trying to look into cheap as poss travel so I can book some Skydiving and such in Switzerland ;)
I'm not sure how long I want to travel for, I'm pretty open with the dates ... so will look into the 10 in 22 but am contemplating the full month to give me the flexibility ... and will take your advice not to travel with IR as far as AMS .. looking into Megabus and Euro*.
And Flo - thanks for the tip on the Bernina route - it's something I defo want to do!
Thanks Guys! Xx

Skydiving in Switzerland ... I'm sure it will be nice. :)
But Switzerland is horrible expensive - I always pass trough and never stay there overnight. Only in the bordering countries like Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovenia or France. Maybe have a look at these countries for skydiving - should be cheaper there. :)
