Hey guys!
Completed an IR trip already last year (with a tremendous amount of help from you) and very excited for another one in April for three weeks! I'm hoping to start in Madrid, then Barcelona (is le petit train really recommended?) but I'm looking for some further inspiration. I was caught up in the floods in May last year so I'd like to incorporate a trip to Munich (and the Neuschwanstein castle in Schwangau) as I had to miss it last year! I'm looking to head East really? I did Oslo, Copenhagen, Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Bernina, Rome, Budapest and Brussels last time so other suggestions and good train trips would be appreciated!

Hey!
I will go interrailing in february and will also visit madrid and then barcelona, my next step is nizza, i have seen pictures from the cote d´azur i think it´s really nice.
I can highly recommend Krakow. It´s so amazing. Super cheap and very nice. Tasty food and beer and everything is so cheap :D ! I still can´t belive how awesome it was there.
Many recommend Prague too. But never have been there.
Personally I like Croatia, Pula is nice, but i don´t know if it´s worth to go in Spring. I think it´s more interesting in summer when you can go to the beach too.
Maybe you want to see more of Italy :) ?

Thank you very much for you response! I will look into Prague and Krakow!
Croatia was one of the places I had in mind actually - I have seen beautiful photos of Split and Rijeka! I also thought about Istanbul but I wonder if that's a bit far? Perhaps its a good idea to look at where is nice in April, thinking about what you have said?

Croatia is very cheap, and if you can find a place to sleep I would give it a try. It won´t be to crowded and has great nature and food, but small towns that live from the money tourists bring, could be empty as people only life there during summer for example in most cities on the island Krk and many more.
So I would look after cities where natives life permanently. I heard great things about Dubrovnik but it´s really in the south. I drove trough Rijeka as it´s on the way to Krk and I spent many summer holidays on Krk but I don´t know if it´s worth a visit. If you´re interested in nature you could visit Plitvice Lakes if it´s possible at this time. It´s a national park. I really like Croatia :) !

Hey!
Nice to hear that you are going to make another trip! :)
Istanbul would make for a quite interesting and somewhat challenging destination, why not? You could go Madrid - Barcelona - Yellow Train - Strasbourg - Munich - Neuschwanstein - Prague - Budapest - Belgrade - Sofia/Plovdiv - Istanbul; this should work out with a 10in22 IR pass.
In the railcc blog you will find information and pictures regarding the Yellow Train and the Budapest - Belgrade - Sofia - Istanbul trip.
Another option might be to travel along the Mediterranean and stop at Marseille and Nice, also exploring the smaller cities and villages nearby. Then continueing to Munich, this time via the more direct Gotthard route from Milan to Zurich; then maybe Prague - Krakow?
You might also take a night train from Prague to the east of Slovakia, to Kosice (or Poprad if you are up to hiking) then go to Budapest and take a night train to Krakow.
Just some suggestions to start with... :)

Thanks Flow,
I have briefly looked at East Europe on the site and there seems to be a lot of bus routes around? In your experience, is it worth interrailing in Eastern countries, like Croatia, Turkey, Bulgaria?

IMO it is worth in when doing a bigger tour including other parts of Europe as well. It can also make sense to combine an InterRail ticket plus regular tickets for some parts in Eastern Europe, depending on the actual route.
Buses are needed especially to get around Croatia, Bosnia and Herzergowina and Montenegro since the rail network is quite sparse there; also of course to get into Albania and currently Greece.
In general you can get by using trains in Eastern Europe, although buses are sometime faster and run more often - up to you to decide what you like. :)
