Hello
I’m planning on doing my second interrail trip this summer and I want to do it a bit more care free this time and not plan every day to the fullest.
I’m arriving in Basel by night train from Amsterdam and then leaving by night train from Zürich to Ljubljana and I want to spend about 6 days in Switzerland and just see the country without doing any reservations (train and hostel).
Is that possible or is there a big change that trains and hostels will be full?
Thanks!

Hej!
Dont worry about trains - apart from a few touristic trains (Glacier Express, Bernina Express,...) all trains can be used without a reservation; for domestic journeys it is uncommon to make seat reservations - just hop on any train and take a seat (all major railways are included in the InterRail pass; however most minor branch railways only offer 50% discount; if you need help on that matter just ask or have a look here: ...
Regarding hostels...I think you do not have to worry, you should find a place to sleep, however it might be a good idea to look up a few hostels beforehand to have a list of alternatives if a certain hostel was in fact fully booked.
I have spent several nights in the Bernina area (Pontresina, Ospizio Bernina) during different times of the year and never had troubles getting a bed on the day.

Good to hear that!
Just in case, you might check the booking situation for a few cities before you leave just to get an impression whether or not some hostels tend to be fully booked or if beds are available also at short notice.
Meanwhile, maybe also have a look at this blog post about one of Switzerlands fantastic scenic routes: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/ :)
