Can someone please clarify for me what the deal is with night trains and the Eurail pass. I was initially of the understanding that by purchasing a 3 month continuous Eurail pass then I would be able to make the money back that the pass cost me plus a bit more by taking several night trains from country to country instead of paying for normal accommodation. Instead I'm now reading that night trains aren't included in the Eurail pass.... Can someone please help explain this for me!?! :)

It varies. MOST overnight trains are included-for the FARE portion that is ''paid for'' by any pass, valid on the specific route for the full length.
MOST of the better overnight trains are by compulsory REServation, also/even for seats, payable at normal rates. Varies between countries how much. in SOME countries there are also a few overnight trains with seats only and without the RES needed. This site has them listed somewhere-as it mainly aims poor Euro bekpek-types who get their worth of money out of the system that way...... As for older people EUrl is 1st cl: most of these trains do NOT have 1st cl. seats-only 2nd.
For real SLEEPing accomodation there is obligatory RES and a much higher extra to pay, vary with country, railway concerned and which type of accomm. there is a very good site explaining/showing that all, but thats considered to be too much competition for this, as it also has links to selling passes. Google is your best friend. In quite a few cases, on these trips it may in fact turn out cheaper to book a special cheap advance ticket monthes before, which covers both-fare and supplmt. The ''normal'' supplmt for real sleepers in trains in WEST-Eur is often higher or same as a budget hotel room.
In most cases one would live continuously on trains to make a continuous EUrail pay its way. Have a look at the cheaper alternatives for x days in a period. If you spend most time in EAST Eur then EUrail is money thrown in the drain-buy local.
