Hi,
I'm at a stage of planning my following eurotrip through Central & Eastern Europe ( https://rail.cc/en/interrail-trip-across-central-eastern-europe/f10273 ). I've got some ideas of cities and routes, but decided to split the forum threads part by part (usually country by country?).

The first bit I would like to plan is Sicily (where I'm gonna fly from London) and Italy.
I will probably end up in Milan where I can catch the amazing Alps train (want to do it once again!).

My first draft is: Sicily (I don't know anything about it) -> Naples -> Rome -> San Marino -> Pisa -> Florence -> Venice -> Milan.

I've initially scheduled this part for...2-3 weeks in total? I would like to get some sea sides as well out there.

Thank you very much for your help with advising cities, interesting routes, places, etc.
Cheers

Hej!

Well...I have only been to Palermo and Cefalù which I can both really recommend. Maybe also look into a trip across the island to Agrigento and onwards to Sira (cus - Catania and the Etna - Taormina before returning to the mainland.

There, you could also think of adding a visit to Lecce in the far southeast, maybe also a trip through Tuscany (Chiusi - Montepulciano - Siena - Firenze).

Hallo Flo!
How have you been mate?

Thanks for your answer. Palermo of course I wanna visit, also Cefalù looks even more interesting on pics. Will definitely include them on the trip. Other aforementioned locations like Agrigento looks also very nice.

Tuscany - yes, I forgot about it! That's completely right. Well, it seems the Italy part could take me up to 3 weeks now ;)

Thanks.

Any other propositions are welcome :)

Thank you, I am doing fine! Already had a look at your other post about your whole tour, looks pretty impressive. :)
Will post a comment there later.

Cefalù is a really nice day trip from Palermo and supposedly also a good starting point if you are interested in hiking.

The question remains what kind of ticket(s) might be the best solution for you...this is always a bit tricky in Italy as the OC pass for Italy is overpriced unless you are always travelling very long distances (north - south only).
The 8 day OC pass and the 10in22 Global Pass have the same costs per day (26,5€) so probably one of these may be interesting...however for shorter distances, for instance when travelling around Tuscany, regular tickets will be cheaper.

You might use a few night trains, then a IR is a good choice. I remember the night train trip from Palermo to Milano (some 21 hours or so) very well, but take enough provisions with you as there is no onboard service. ;)

Thanks, will have a deep look into the tickets and everything. As you did say, even the ticket part sounds quite tricky ;)

All the concerns you wrote make me sure it's already a good time to start planning the whole trip. Now I'm not quite convenient whether I can make it all within 3 months tho... ;) I hope the plan is not too ambitious.

BTW, When visiting Austria, I'm looking forward to catching up for a beer maybe? :)
