Hello! I am travelling with my friend from Zagreb to Montpellier, 28. of December (2013)- 4. January (2014).
Now, I have to get there cheap and fast, so i decided for train, but i can't find the route that won't last more than a day of travel.
Is that normal? And could anyone please give me an idea of the route i could take, pretty please?

hey,
there are some routes, where you travel less than 24 hours. The fastest is to take the night train to Muinch in the evening (the day before) and use three TGVs.

Zagreb Glavni Kolod. Fr, 27.12.13 ab 21:20 EN 498 EuroNight
Munich Hbf Sa, 28.12.13 an 06:10

Munich Hbf Sa, 28.12.13 ab 06:29 TGV 9576 TGV
Strasbourg Sa, 28.12.13 an 10:11

Strasbourg Sa, 28.12.13 ab 11:05 TGV 6837 / TGV 6836 TGV Duplex
Valence TGV Sa, 28.12.13 an 16:11

Valence TGV Sa, 28.12.13 ab 16:21 TGV 6065 TGV Duplex
Montpellier Saint-Roch Sa, 28.12.13 an 17:34

There's a possible connection which requires only two changes, but you have to wait nearly 3 hours in Strasbourg to catch a direct TGV to Montpellier.
But I think theses connections aren't cheap. You need reservations for all trains.

To find more possible routes check: [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux]

Otherwise you can check eurolines, if you 'd like to go by bus or other websites.

Hi!

For tickets Zagreb - Munich it is best to go to the station in Zagreb (the return leg can be purchased online at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] ); Munich - Strasbourg at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] , the other connections at [ux]https://rail.shop/sncf[/ux]
There you might find the cheapest fares, however since there is the annual timetable change at 15 December it may not yet be possible to buy all tickets online.
Also take care to have suffcient time in between different trains if you have different tickets for different trains (eg if you buy Munich - Strasbourg at [ux]https://rail.shop/bahn[/ux] and Strasbourg - Montpellier at rail.shop/sncf). Why? Because if the first train would be late so that you would miss your connection you would not get a refund for the missed train.
