Hi folks - first timer here looking for some friendly advice. My name is Gerard and I'm from Belfast in Ireland - hoping to do some travelling around Europe during Spring of next year. I'm still very much in the planning stages of this, and trying to decide where I want to visit before checking out budgets etc, and any help you guys could give me about potential routes and cities to take in would be great.

I will be travelling for around two weeks - maybe up to about 18 days. I'm thinking of starting in Nice. I've been to Spain, Portugal and Paris a few times, so I think the South of France would be a good place to start checking out some new cities. From there, I definitely want to check out Florence and Budapest for a few days. Can anybody suggest other cities that I could do along the way and potentially after Budapest?

Some cities I've been thinking about including are: Venice, Zagreb, Prague and maybe Frankfurt or somewhere else in Germany to end the trip. I'd love to take in more of Italy, but I think I will save that for another trip and dedicate a whole fortnight to Italy. I would also love to visit a town or city that isn't a capital or major city - a quieter place that isn't visited by tourists as often as some of the major cities, so any suggestions for this would be very much appreciated.

Guys, thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Gerard

Your trip sounds great. I would definitely go to Zagreb and, if there is time, extend from there to Sarajevo. Both of those countries were for me real surprises (gems) and there is some magnificent scenery along the way.
Also if you can work in Ljubljana on the way to Venice that is a delightful small city.

You could investigate the route from Zagreb through Ljubljana and the Julian Alps down to Nova Gorica. Then you walk out of Nova Gorica station, across the Slovenian border, and into Italy to Goriza station. The border passes through the place in front of the Nova Gorica station.[Details here (in reverse direction: https://rail.cc/blog/travel-lake-bled-train/]

Happy traveling.

Cheers

Richard
