So the DB Bahn website lists completely different trains to the Rail Europe website?! I am confused! :|

The DB Bhan website shows Regional trains and the Rail Europe website only show the TGV! :| please help!

yes, it would be possible. There are local trains to Perpignan and sometimes to Cerbére and Portbou. And from Portbou are local trains to Barcelona.
I´m sorry i can´t tell you a timetable at the moment. From Montellier to Perpignan is around 2 hours.

Hi!

There is a direct Talgo train in the morning, but you probably will be charged 18€ for a reservation.

Another alternative would be the twice daily TGV - Avant connections (change in Figures Vilafant); 3€ plus 10€ reservation

I would recommend to use regional trains only which do not require any reservation. From Montpellier travel to Portbou via Narbonne - Perpignan - Cerbère.

If you provide the exact travel day we can help you with a detailed schedule. :)

Thanks Flo!

I am glad you have said not to trust RE. It might be worth highlighting that the Rail Planner App has the same problem with contradictory train times.

So we are leaving Montpelier on 29th October. Ideally late afternoon. I dont want to pay for a reservation :)

DB Bahn confirms a train leaving 12:49 with 1 change at Port Bou. Duration of 5:50. Would this be correct?

thanks!!!!!

Thanks peter

We didn't make a reservation on our Berlin to Prague leg on Friday and we nearly regretted it as the whole train was booked!! Managed to sit in the restaurant for the journey.

Based on this experience we would like to make a reservation from montpelier to Barcelona. On the 29th oct. Where will be the best place to make it? Tried raileur*pe but that wants me to buy the ticket not the reservation!!!!

Thanks

Jonathan

Hi Jonathan,

the EC trains on the route Berlin - Prague do not require a reservation, you can always hop on without a reservation. Of course there are days/trains where more people want to get on the train, as you have experienced (I travelled Dresden - Wien via Prague last Monday and the train was quite full as well but I got a seat in the first coach though).
Hope you enjoyed the stay in the restaurant car.

As far as I know you cannot make reservations for TER trains, but if you want to try I would recommend to ask for at a station in France.
