im very confused as to what my best options are... me and 4 friends are going from krakow to prague night train on the 27th of october, we are also travelling prague to amsterdam on the wednesday 30th of october... we would be looking to get a couchette for both these trips...now my question is.. would it be cheaper to buy seperate tickets for the trip of would the 5 day pass be cheaper? also what are the added benefits of the interrail pass

Hi.
To travel only these two routes, an Interrail pass isn't worth.
As you have the base fare of the Interrail pass, plus the reservation fees for the night trains.
Krakow - Prague: I can't give you the exact price for the night train, you have to contact rail.shop/pkpic
Or have a look here: http://intercity.pl/en/site/special-offers/special-offers-for-international-transport/to-czech-republic-from-24-euro.html
Day train from EUR 19. Hostels are cheap in both cities. If you get prices from PKP, post it here. :)
Prague - Amsterdam: buy as early as possible a saver price here: https://rail.shop/bahn/Prgaue/Amsterdam-Centraal
Seats in the night train still available for EUR 29.
In the 6-bed-couchette (recommended) for EUR 49.
So you see - Interrail is not worth on this route. :)
Peter :)
