Hi... from Split to Plitvice lake goes great night train,it goes around 7 hours if I remember well. You should get off in Ogulin, but the best is in Plaški - if you want to use Interrail (right to Plitvice you don´t find any train connection). I went from Plaški by hitch-hiking to Plitvice and back (40km there and 40km back).
Train from Split to Ogulin goes 7 hours, so I´m not sure you can keep your schedule because you need 3/4 day just for travelling to Plitvice. And you need min. 1/2 day to explore Plitvice Lakes.
Plitvice - Ljubljana, you will travel 1/2 day I suppose. You should go through Zagreb (Ogulin - Zagreb - around 2 hours) and then to Ljubljana (don´t go through Rijeka, it´s too long). If you have a luck you will not wait too long for next train connection. Actually, I recommend you to stay two days in Bled what is amazing and beautiful place surrounded by National Park Triglav rather than to stay one day in Ljubljana (nice peacefull city but nothing else) and one day in Bled. I visited Canyon Vintgar what is a few kilometres from Bled and it´s more beautiful and cool place than Plitvice.

You will travel long distances first days... Dubrovnik - Split - Plitvice - Ljubljana - I traveled this way more than 3 weeks...

Good Luck!

I forgot important thing. Forgot the station Jezero Bled (Lake Bled) !! It´s when you go from Ljubljana everyone who doesn´t know this place sends you to Jesenice and there you have to wait long time for a train which takes you one station (back) to Jezero Bled. Stupid! You will lost one hour at least. Get off in Lesce Bled what is small town and from there is the path to Lake Bled. I went by bike 10min, so by walking it can be 20min.

I hope I helped. Bye

Sorry for the delayed reply. Thanks for your help! A few people have said to me to spend more time in Lake Bled than Ljubljana so that's what I'll do. Is a day enough in Ljubljana or should I definitely spend one night there? Canyon Vintgar looks amazing! I think I'll check it out.

I think I'll skip Plitvice and just get the bus/train from Split to Zagreb and then onto Ljubljana. Any advice about what to do in Croatia? I'm flying into Dubrovnik early on Friday morning. Maybe 2 nights in Dubrovnik and 2 in Split? Or is 1 night in Dubrovnik enough?

Hi!

Dubrovnik is quite expensive and touristy, in my opinion one day is enough. I would stay one night in Ljubljana, but that is no must.

Are you travelling with an InterRail ticket?

You might even think about adding a short visit to Italy (Trieste/Venice)... :)
