Hello,
I am planning to take the night train in Finland up to Rovaniemi. From there I will take the bus to Inari. That busses (wwwDOTmatkahuoltoDOTfi), are they for free with the Interrail ticket? Or at 50%? Does anyone know?
greets, Andreas

hej Andreas...
you do not get a discount with Interrail.
and even getting a discount as a student or person under the age of 26 years is difficult !! :(
I remember that you need a special student ID card with photo which you get from the finish railway company or this bus company... for this special student ID card, you have to pay extra... an international student ID card is NOT valid.
maybe think about this company:
www.eskelisen-lapinlinjat.com
your trip will be about 50 EUR one-way as a student.
from Rovaniemi to Nordkapp it is 90 EUR one-way with the student discount... only for people interested in this information. ;)

Matkahuolto is the marketing company of the Finnish bus operators. They sell 1 and 2 week freedom passes that are valid on most bus routes both express and regional services. No supplement fares on express routes. Some bigger cities are excluded as bus traffic in these is under municipal authorities.

Thanks Peter and Nikolai!
This is not such a good news though, but I found out that if you travel with at least 3 persons together, a ticket is 37,30 instead of 49,80. Student price would be 24,90. I was in Finland before as an Erasmus student, then I HAD such a special student card...
I met a Swiss girl who travelled by busses instead of trains, because she could get always student price (though she was not entitled to it), simply because of less strict application of the rules :) ...
Apart from this story:
Peter, the company you wrote about ( www.eskelisen-lapinlinjat.com ), do they grant student reductions for foreign students? You know about this? On their web page nothing is written. Do you need an ISIC card then?
Greetings,
Andreas

hi Andreas...
I am not sure... but if I remember right, international student IDs are not accepted. and you do not get the discounts if you are a non-finish student.
maybe ask them personally ?!
sorry for this small answer... :|

when i did my erasmus there we had to get our finnish student cards befor we could have the usual 50% discount on public transport. So i guess they don't accept normal international student IDs.
