Hi,
Me and my girlfriend are planning to travel in october from amsterdam to boedapest. We want to have have 5 travel days and our idea for travelling is the following:
Day 1: travel from amsterdam to basel or zurich
Day 2: stay in basel or zurich
Day 3: travel from basel or zurich to florence
Day 4: stay in florence
Day 5: travel from florence to venice
Day 6: stay in venice
Day 7: travel from venice to vienna
Day 8: stay in vienna
Day 9: travel from vienna to boedapest
Day 10: stay in boedapest
Day 11: fly back to the netherlands

We already checked this website and it should be possible like the above. We do not mind to spend a large part of the day for travelling, although some breaks would be nice (at some interesting places/cities). Preferably we arrive early in the evening at our next stop to enjoy the evening there. We have the following questions:
- which city do you think is nicer to spend some time: basel or zurich?
- what are nice routes (perhaps some nice sceneries) with as least reservations and fees as possible (like said before, we don't need to travel fast)?
- what are good places for a short or little bit longer break? (For example we think it is nice to have lunch in milano on the route from florence to venice)

Please also let us know if you have any tips or remarks regarding our roundtrip.

Thanks!

Hi.
I personally prefer Zurich.
On your way from Switzerland to Italy, use this free and amazing route: https://rail.cc/blog/zurich-milano-albula-bernina/
In Italy you can travel without extra reservations, check the schedules: https://rail.cc/en/search-interrail-route
For Venice to Vienna, think about the direct overnight train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/venice-vienna-en-236/97
To support the free information and the forum on railcc, please be fair and buy your official Interrail pass via our railcc partner link: [ux]https://rail.shop/interrail[/ux]
Thank you! :)

Hi Peter,

Thanks a lot for your reply!
Just a sec ago I bought the tickets via the railcc website, so that should be fair.
I think we will go to Zurich. Thanks for the route from switserland to italy, we will definitely take this route. Nighttrain from venice to vienna is a possibility for us, as that will mean one more day in one of the cities (probably boedapest).
What about the other routes? Do we need to make reservations?

Hi Dennis.
Just send me your order ID (PNR beginning with AA) by personal mail, then I can set your profile to PLUS. Thank you for supporting! :)

Amsterdam - Basel: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/amsterdam-to-basel
Amsterdam - Zurich: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/amsterdam-to-zurich
Both routes free by day trains - but the night train is also a nice solution in couchette.

Zurich to Florence: depends on the route. Crossing the Alps is free for example. And Milan to Florence can be done as well by free local train: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/milan-to-florence

Florence - Venice: possible by free local trains - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/florence-to-venice

Venice - Vienna: night train with extra fees - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/venice-to-vienna

Vienna - Budapest: free - https://rail.cc/en/interrail/vienna-to-budapest

Peter :)
