I will be beginning my Interrail trip from Turkey this winter and I want to visit Greece as well, but I found out that the international connections are halted. I will visit Athens by a bus from Istanbul but I want to know what is the best and cheapest way to get to Bulgaria or Macedonia from there.

Thanks for the info. And do you know if I can use my Interrail pass in Greece? Is the railway still active between Thessaloniki and Athens?

Hi.
Yes. Athens - Thessaloniki: https://rail.cc/en/interrail/athens-to-thessaloniki
But you could also use only buses for the first part of your trip and start interrailing then from Bulgaria.
