I plan to travel on the Elipsos from Barca to Paris on 24 October ’13 using a Eurail France-Spain pass. This train requires a reservation even though I have a pass. I appreciate that European train reservations often aren’t open until 60 or sometimes 90 days prior to the date of travel.
However the latest forward reservation date for this train seems to have been stuck on 15 September for several days which is only about 35 days in advance on today’s date. If the 60 day ‘rule’ applied I should have been able to make a reservation for around 8 October.
None of the online sites I’ve tried currently offer any reservations beyond 15 September. Even the Elipsos site doesn’t offer full bookings beyond 15 September.
Can anyone tell me if this apparent randomness is normal for European train reservations.
If anyone has knowledge of these matters is it the case that the train operators release forward dates for bookings/reservation in block of dates or should I expect to see availabilities creep forward one day at a time?
Cheers

Hi hobart_10.
The reason might be the withdraw of this night train after the 15th September 2013. There will be new high-speed-trains introduced (at least it is planed).
If you want to use a night train on this route, you can also first travel from Barcelona to the French border and from there by French night train to Paris.
An other nice option is to start in the morning from Barcelona to Latour de Carol - crossing the Pyrenees. Then by the Little Yellow Train down - to Perpignan. From there by night train to Paris. Have a look at this blog post: https://rail.cc/blog/little-yellow-train-video/

And please be fair and buy your official Eurail pass at the place you get your travel information from, at railcc: https://rail.cc/en/eurail
After your purchase, just let me know your order-ID to set your profile to PLUS for more detailed answers. :)
Thank you, Peter :)
