Hey guys, I'm a first time interrailer hoping to travel Eastern Europe with two friends this Summer. I've got a few basic questions about the tickets that I hope you can answer.

This is my basic route.

Venice, Slovenia , Croatia, Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Poland.

1. Is it worth buying the '3 day in a month' passes for some countries? For instance I've heard Slovenia is so cheap and small that it isn't worth it.

2. How do these day passes work? e.g. If I was travelling from Zagreb to Sarajevo would this journey count as one days travel in Croatia and one days travel in Bosnia & Herzegovina? Therefore using up one day on both passes?

3. Buying tickets online. If I buy a ticket online whilst I'm travelling how do I pick it up, is it posted to me? Can I collect it from a train station? Also does anyone think it is worth buying these passes at train stations in the first place or is it worth getting them before I set out from Britain?

4. Finally night trains, how much extra are these on average, and how great a difference do they make to the journey? In short are they worth it?

Sorry if some of these questions have been answered in other posts, I don't mean to be repetitive.

All help is appreciated,

Ta,

-Tom, Harry and Neal

Hi.
Here are the answers... :)

1) if you don't travel the three days in some of these small countries, it isn't worth as train travel is very cheap there and I am sure you won't travel at one day from the one side of the country to the other...

2) yes, ONE travel day in every country... so you loose two travel days at one real day... maybe a cheap global ticket is also interesting for you - when travelling more than three countries.

3) you can chose a delivery address when buying the ticket. but it is better to buy it in advance. or then during your tour on big rail stations (not possible in the UK). be sure to speak the language of the country when buying it at a station there! :)

4) you save time and you save money for a night in a hostel. but you don't see the nature when travelling in the dark ...
if you use a night train which has normally seats, it is free or you have to pay a reservation of around 3 EUR.
if you use sleeping-seats, it is about 10 EUR and a bed in a 6-bed-compartment (couchettes) it is between 10 and 20 EUR per night.

have fun on your very nice and interesting route !!!
