Hi there,

I was wondering if you could give me a rough estimate of the price of the night train from Krakow to Vienna (including reservation) and the price of the train from Bratislava to Budapest?

Thanks,

Scott.

Thanks very much man! :)

One slight problem, there doesn't seem to be a 'buy ticket' option on the PKP website. I'm guessing that this is because it is still quite early to book a train for the 21st of August but I'm not sure?

Cheers,

Scott.

Hi Scott.
Contact PKP - you can't buy this ticket online - do it by email-contact.

Hi Peter,

Are those really the prices for night trains from Krakow to Vienna? They are quite pricey compared to all of the other night trains I have seen/used so far!

Do you know if the route to Vienna is long during the day? Or is it worth paying the money for a night train?

Thanks
Lin

Hej Lin,

these are the InterRail prices: https://rail.cc/en/interrail-night-train/krakow-vienna-en-402/70
You just have to select the InterRail tab in the link in the other post. ;)

IMO the night train is a good option, even though you arrive quite early in Vienna. During the day you would have to take the quite slow train to Katowice first to change to an EC train with compulsory (4€) reservation. There are Polish restaurant cars though on these EC trains which are worth a try. :)

Phew! Thanks so much Flo :D , I must have hit the wrong tab. 65euro for a 6 bed sleeper was really not an option for me!

Would you advise booking this train in advance? I got caught out in Paris>Berlin and would like a smooth journey for the rest of my trip!

I think you will be fine booking one or two days in advance but you can never predict it. 100% of course. ;)
Anyway, you would have the alternative of getting a bed/couchette on the part of the train that runs to Budapest as well, if you book until Bratislava or another town in Slovakia, you could get back to Vienna rather quickly and not lose too much time...but this is just an option if the VIenna train was full.

Hello again,

This may seem like a silly question but I just want to be 100% sure! From your link above I can see that a ticket without an inter-rail pass is 52 euros, but with an inter-rail pass it is only 13 euros. At my time of travel I will have an inter-rail pass in my possession. However, it will technically not be valid until my first travel day (29/8/13). Will I still be able to buy a ticket at the inter-rail price or will I have to pay full price as my pass is not valid on the travel date. Sorry if this is a dumb question, but It's always good if you can save money in any way ;)

No, you will have to get a regular ticket plus reservation.

Please keep in mind that the special fare is a limited offer which can only be bought at a station.
If you buy the ticket at short notice you will have to pay the full fare.
Both fares include ticket+reservation, the reservation is the same price as for travel with InterRail.
